THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN

OJEME EWHRUDJAKPOR, the first female deputy Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor is the first female to attain the rank of Deputy Corps Marshal, the highest rank after the Corps Marshal and Chief executive. Similarly, she was the first female Assistant Corps Marshal.

Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor’s foray into the Corps was drawn by the compulsion to have an input and to contribute her own quota to the services of the nation through the humanitarian nature of the Corps. By sheer Providence, the initial trigger was a huge challenge posed by her cousin who felt she wasn’t cut out for a disciplined or stringent life of an 8 to 5 job. This assumption was based on the fact that her former job was susceptible to its own unpredictable but exclusive schedules.

However, the raison d’etre was that Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor has a concept with destiny and little did she know that through the hurricane of good events, she would be catapulted to the pinnacle of success.

She was one time Sector Commander of Lagos, Cross Rivers and kogi states. In 2009, she was promoted to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal and was posted to Special Marshal and Partnership department (SMP). This opened floodgates of her acumen and abilities resulting in succession of achievements tearing off the veil of masculine superior intelligence with the maxim that says ” what a man can do, a woman can do better ”

Her heading of the department was like the proverbial sweet berry a child places under the tongue to sweeten the passage of food. The world never spits it out! Through hard work and knowledge born out of experience, the department thrived with the coordination of 13 thousand volunteers of special marshals and a projected increase to 30 thousand in 2012. The idea was to embrace other professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, the clergy, journalists in order to use their platforms to spread the gospel of road safety to every segment of the society. Incredibly, the idea of Celebrity Special Marshals was conceived during her tenure. Notable musicians, actors, media men and those who have made significant impact in the society.

Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor was born in Benin where she grew up but she is from okpe local government of Delta state. Before her adventure into the Corps, she worked with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as a senior producer for 9 years. She also worked with the Abuja council of arts and culture as cultural officer in the drama unit.

Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the university of Benin. She has a post graduate diploma in public administration with a bias in personnel management. In other to further improve herself, she took a trip to War college, Abuja for 18 months.

A woman I like to describe as infectious with life and the good thing of life is an incredible event planner. She is a woman with a principle bone who eschews laziness, lazy people and sloppy attitude to work. Blessed with an incorrigible determined streak to succeed in any job assigned to her, this is born out her encouraging and motivating late father who believed a woman should not be limited by her feminism but must see that feminism as an advantage to put up her best at all times.

Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor is blessed with two wonderful daughters, Onome and Emmanuella .
