COAS REWARDS 7 ARMY OFFICERS AND 5 SOLDIERS FOR ACTS OF VALOUR

Daily Post reports that the Chief of Army Staff. Major General Taoreed Lagbaja has rewarded seven Officers and five soldiers for various acts of valour. The Officers were rewarded with medals and special commendation letters at this year’s Army day Celebration in Ibadan. One of the officers recognized and honoured was Brig. General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro of Infantry Corps and the Commander 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar. He was honoured for being a very proactive senior officer. He had conducted several operations to curb the occasional flow of the activities of Ambazonian rebels from the Republic of Cameroon.  They were rebels who had threatened the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Okoro also prevented the incursion of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) secessionist group into his area of responsibility. His dynamic and bold actions led to the discovery and destroying their camp in Cross Rivers State.

He has also conducted operations that led to the interception of large cache of explosive materials and ammunition in Amana in Northern Cross Rivers State during the recently conducted elections. He was said to have accuratively predicted the dynamics of the landscape of the state, and understood the high propensity and potential for political violence and took necessary actions. He executed many precursor operations that led to the arrest of political thugs, recovering dangerous ammunition that would have been used during the elections.
