FIRST WOMB TRANSPLANT CARRIED OUT IN UK

The first womb transplant was carried out by surgeons on a woman in the united Kingdom. The sister was said to be the living womb donator. It was a nine hour transplant procedure on an unidentified 34 year old woman who was born with a rare condition making her original womb underdeveloped. Her 40 year older sister who already had two children of her own. Her rare condition known as Mayer-Rokitansky-Hauser syndrome affects one in 5000 women who have an underdeveloped vagina and missing womb. The patient lives in England and wishes to remain anonymous was well enough to live the hospital after 10 days from Churchil Hospital in Oxford.

The co-lead surgoen Isabel Quiroga said she was very thrilled and extremely proud for the success of the procedure. She is a consultant surgeon at the Oxford Transplant Centre, a part of Oxford University Hospitals.

The surgery was carried out in February.
