The number of Nigerians who died in the boat mishap on Saturday has risen to 30 from 26 according to the spokesman for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Hussaine Ibrahim on Monday night in a brief Whatsapp post to PUNCH. They dead comprised of three male children and twenty seven women.

The Spokesman revealed to PUNCH in a telephone conversation that most of the rescued victims were still in a state of shock and unable to speak when they arrived at the communities on Monday. He said a larger percentage of the passengers who boarded the boat were women on their way to the farm. Earlier it was reported that a boat carrying over 100 passengers capsized on Sunday in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State killing 30 passengers while 30 others were rescued. The Communities affected by this tragedy are Gbajibo, Yankyade, Biagi and Ekwa in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
