NAPTIP LAUDS JUDICIARY AS PHARMACIST BAGS LIFE SENTENCE

Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi, the Director -General of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commended the Judicary for what she called ”Landmark Judgement’ that led to the sentencing after conviction of Dr. Abubakar Danraka to life improsinment for rape (sodomy) under section 1 of the violence against persons (prohinition) Act of 2015. Dankara was sentenced on Monday by Justice A. Akanbi-Yusuf at the Kubwa High Court. Dankara was a former chief pharmacist of National Hospital, ABuja and senior technical adviser (technical) to the Director of the national Institute for Pharmaceutical research and development. Danraka was arrested on March 27, 2020 for defiling his neighbour who is a minor in the same estate. In a statement by the chief press officer, Vincent Adekoye on Tuesday titled FCT ”High Court sentences public officer and pharmacist to life imprisonment for rape” said that the minor was ‘lured to his apartment and had anal intercourse with him after stupefying him with a drink’

The accused pleaded ”not guilty” but the prosecution team from NAPTIP sufficiently proved the charge beyond reasonable doubt which led to the September 18, 2023 judgement. The DG of NAPTIP hailed the judiciary for its doggedness in ensuring that justice is served under the VAPP act. She said ”I want to specially commend the judiciary for its sustained collaboration, and support in the implementation of the VAPP/Law in the country which has culminated in this landmark judgement”
