FRSC REPORTS THAT 17 DIE IN NIGER ROAD ACCIDENT

PUNCH reports today that no fewer than 17 persons died in a lone crash around Takalafia Village onYauri Expressway of Magama Local Government area of Niger State. The Spokesman for Federal Road Safety Corps, DCM Bisi Kazeem revealed that investigation into the lone crash occured around 3pm on Tuesday and involved a total of 229 people comprising 220 male adults and four female adults. There were also four male children.

206 male adults, one female adult and one male child were rescued with different degrees of injuries, while a total of 17 male adults died. The crash involved a red-colored commercial DAF trailer with plate Number SRZ 446 XA driven by Idi Doba was caused by a speed violation which resulted to loss of control.

The Injured victims were evacuated to Kontangora General Hospital for immediate medical attention while the dead victims were deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital. In the statement issued by FRSC, said that the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu again warned drivers of trailers and other haulage vehicles to desist from conveying passengers in their vehicles due to the danger they pose to other road users.
