GABONESE ARMY OFFICERS OUST PRESIDENT ALI BONGO

Army Officers appeared on National Television in Gabon to announce they have taken over power in the Central African Country. They said they were annulling the results of Saturday’s election, which President Ali Bongo was declared winner.  The soldiers introduced themselves as members of the CTRI (The Committee of Transition and Restoration of Institutions). They said they have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the regime in power. This overthrow would end the 53-year-old reign of Ali Bongo’s family as president of Gabon.

Bongo has been in power for 14 years when he was elected as president following the death of his father Omar Bongo Ondimba who ruled the country for 41 years.
