TheGuardian reports that the Police in Abuja have arrested a pregnant married woman who faked her kidnap and shared the N2M ransom with her boyfriend.

The Police said the on 11 March 2024, one Chiedozie Ubah of Saburi 11 Dei-Dei Abuja reported at Gwagwa division that his pregnant wife Rosemary Ubah left home to the hospital on the same date for a scan but did not return home. Ubah later received a call through his wife’s phone number that she had been kidnapped and N2M ransom was demanded for her release. Ubah transferred the sum of N2M into his wife’s account as instructed by the kidnapper. He later brought his wife to the station after her release and during interrogation, the wife freely confessed to having conspired with one man named Walter Ezeala living in the same street with them at Saburi to extort money fro her husband.

Walter was arrested and he confessed that his share was N800K and the lady took N1.2K The sum of N793,500 cash, two ATM cards and two Android phones were recovered from the susupects who will be charged to court.
