MEDICAL STUDENTS MISSING ON BOAT MISHAP

Three medical students who were on medical trip to calabar have been reportedly missing after their speed boat capsized at Marina Resort in Calabar around 3pm on Saturday. The unfortunate incident occurred due to the high waves on the Calabar higwaves according to NAIJANEWS. They were under the aegis of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NIMSA) and were attending the NIMSA annual Health week in the state. They were 14 students on the trip and 11 were rescued while three unfortunately were missing. The cross river Police Spokesperson, Irene Ugbo confirmed the incidence to Channels and said efforts were on to rescue the missing students.

The Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has ordered an investigation into the boat accident. The Governor who is saddened that three of the medical students were yet to be found and charged security and rescue agencies as well as villagers involved in the operation to find the missing students.

The governor commended personnel of the Nigerian Navy patrol teams were nearby and local villagers who responded swiftly and rescued 11 of the 14 students on the trip.

The incident is the second fatal boat mishap reported in the country in less than two weeks. Prenium Times had reported some days ago that 103 persons died in a boat accident in Egbu village in Patigi Local Government of Kwara State.
