EID-EL-KABIR TURNS CARNIVAL UNIFIES NIGERIANS ON LAGOS ISLAND

According to the PUNCH the Observance of Eid-el-Kabir on Wednesday turned into a carnival and a unification event for residents on Lagos Island. There was much funfare among the Islanders amid music entertainment. cooking, eating and popping of Champagne. The yearly Muslim ritual of slaughtering ram started with prayers in Mosques. The event which cascaded into a unification event for Muslims and non-Muslim singers from different parts of the country. At Tinubu’s square prayer ground, the faithfuls showed love and unity to others by offering them food and drinks to mark the day. It was same thing at Nnamdi Azikiwe street where tow Muslim families served food and other materials to residents. Reports had it that members of NADwat Global Assembly Worship Center on Igbosere Street Played down faith doctrines and served food and drinks to all those who gathered under their tents. Alhaja Soliu Aishat who spoke for the group said that the event was to promote the virtue of sacrifice exemplified by the Prophet Ibrahim. Similar scenes were seen at Falomo and Obalende with the air filled with happy celebration and slaughtering of cattle with music rendering the air.

Professor Adewale Paramole who spoke on this year’s Sallah event and the Chief Missioner of JejeWiyat Muslim Association of Nigeria said it was meant to provide Nigerians an avenue for reconciliation in the aftermath of the last tumultuous general elections. He calls for National cohesion saying Islam was a human-oriented religion. He stressed the need for government to alleviate people’s sufferings through the provision of palliatives in the aftermath of the withdrawal of fuel subsidy.

The annual event commemorates the faith and trusts prophet Ibrahim had in God when he was asked to use his only son for sacrifice.
