STRAY BULLETS FROM NDLEA KILL CHILD AND INJURE SIBLING

  

Vanguard reports that stray bullets from Operatives of National Drug Enforcement Agency NDLEA has killed a two-year-old pupil and wounded his sibling at Okpanam, Osimili North Local Government of Delta State. The incident occurred when the Officials of NDLEA raided a notorious drug joint on Thursday. Ivan Omhonria and Younger Brother Eremonsele had just returned from school were in their mother’s shop when the incident happened. Ivan was hit on his abdomen while the bullet brushed Eremonsele in the eye. The victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba but Ivan did not survive it. It is reported that Mr. John Tunde, the State Commandant of NDLEA confirmed the incident but said that his men did not open fire on the children because they can’t be that unprofessional to open fire on a shop. He said that there was a Toyota Camry parked within the prancing when his men stormed the drug joint to raid and dislodge the place. He said the Camry ran over one of the Operatives while escaping. In an attempt to demobilize the car, his men shot at it. They cannot ascertain now if the children were inside the car at the time of shooting. However, his men certainly did not open fire at any shop. He said the operative ran over is in the hospital in Ogwashi-Uku and attempt to stop the escaping car was unsuccessful as it got away. He however said he was with the father of the child at the hospital that night.
