PROFESSOR KOLE OMOTOSHO REVEREND NIGERIAN WRITER DIES AT 80

The writer died on Wednesday at the age of 80. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday on 21 April. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Yewande where she stated that ‘our beloved father and husband moved from this plane on Wednesday, late afternoon. He was a celebrated writer and famous for his 1988 novel JUST BEFORE DOWN which documents evolution of Nigeria as a country and his works include THE COMBAT, THE EDIFICE. MIRACLES, FELA’S CHOICE. SACRIFICE, THE CURSE AND SHADOWS IN THE HORIZON

He was a visiting professor at the University of Stirling, National University of Lesotho and later the University of the Western Cape, South Africa between 1991 and 2000; he was also a professor at the Drama Department of Stellenbosch University from 2001 and 2003.

Professor Kole Omotosho was born in Akure on 21st of April 1943; he attended King’s college Lagos, University of Ibadan and University of Edinburgh.

VANGUARD.

From the Sunday Times, Thango Ntwasa enumerated the qualities of Omotsho. He described him as a born Scholar, astute socio-political critic and a believer in Humanity. He became a household face due to the Vodacom Advert that featured the “Yebo Gogo” line. Nelson mandela described him as the “most photographed man in South Africa. He has published 16 books and the book JUST BEFORE DAWN that made him flee Nigeria because of the Negative feedback.

His children have also built a legacy for themselves. His son Akin is most familiar to South African Soap lovers for his role on GENERATIONS where he acted Khaya. Akin is a director and has 3 award winning novels.
