17 MISSING IN CANOE ACCIDENT IN ADAMAWA

Seventeen out of twenty three people in the boat which capsized in Adamawa State are yet to be accounted for. The Local Boat was conveying locals capsized in Njuwa lake across Rugange village in Yola South Local Government Area. Faisal Dabo Rugange who was an eye witness said the incident happened earlier on Friday where the victims were going to Yola for their local business. He said it was raining and a heavy windstorm blew water into the boat which was carrying more than 20 people and it capsized. six people were however rescued by local divers and a bigger boat which arrived at the scene. He complained of the perennial suffering by the community as a result of overflow by large volumes of water along river Benue. Faisal said further that the people need bigger engine boats.

However, Mohammed Suleiman, the executive secretary Adamawa State Emergency management Agency said that one person died and five were rescued while 17 people are yet to be seen.
