8 OUT OF 24 NIGER BOAT MISHAP VICTIMS RESCUED

Daily post reports that 8 out of the 24 persons involved in a boat mishap that happened on Monday in Kasabu community of Agwara Local Council Of Niger state has been rescued. The Boat was conveying passengers to the Yauri fish market in Kebbi state when the accident occurred. Habibu Wushishi, The Director of media and strategy, Ministry of Humanitarian and disaster management said in a statement that they 8 were rescued through the combined efforts of divers and owners of the boat. The rescued victims are receiving treatment before reuniting with their family.

He said that the search and rescue mission had ended and the ministry in collaboration with relevant stakeholders is working assiduously to find out the remote and immediate cause of the mishap to avert the recurrence of the unfortunate incident. Ahmed baba Suleiman Yumu who is the state commissioner of Humanitarian affairs and disaster management and Barrister Mairo Mohammed Mann, the permanent secretary had condoled the bereaved families while assuring that the ministry would intensify an awareness campaign in riverine communities to forestall future occurrence. He commended all the stakeholders for efforts at rescue.
