ELEVEN PEOPLE KILLED IN MULTIPLE ACCIDENT

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said that eleven people have been killed in a multiple accident on Ore-Benin road on Thursday. According to PRENIUMTIMESNG, this was contained in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem on Thursday in Abuja. The accident occurred on kilometer 20 Ovia bridge inward Benin, Edo state at 9.04am. The multiple accident involved a total of nineteen passengers who are ten males, eight females and a female child. Out of the nineteen, eleven died. Out of the 11 were 7 males, 3 females and a female child while eight others survived with various degrees of injuries. Three vehicles involved are Dangote Trailer at the rear, A kia saloon car with registration Number LSD553HY that was brushed at the side and a Toyota Hiace Bus with Registration Number KET779AV in front.

According to Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Marshal reacted to the accident by advising drivers to avoid carelessness whenever they noticed vehicle mechanical faults. The Corps Marsha reiterated for the need for drivers to ensure routine and regular maintenance of vehicles to avert unwarranted road accidents that could lead to loss of human lives and damages to property. It was revealed that investigation showed that the accident occurred as a result of break failure which resulted in loss of control. The injured have been evacuated to the Saving Grace Hospital, Ovbiogie in Benin, while the dead had been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Mortuary. The Corps Marshal directed that a technical investigation should be conducted into the immediate and remote causes of the accident in order to prosecute those culpable.

Similarly, three persons have died while one other sustained injury in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday. A Toyota Sienna Vehicle with Registration number BDG 426 HT and DAT truck marked RNG 558XC were involved in the accident. The Sienna driver rammed into the DAF truck coming out of a trailer park. The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Ogun Command Florence Okpe confirmed the incident to reporters in Abeokuta. Mrs Okpe disclosed that the accident occurred around Total Petrol Station on the expressway. Seven people were involved in the accident. Four male adults, two female adults and one child making a total of seven passengers were involved in the accident. The accident was attributed to excess speed on the part of the Sienna driver. the injured were taken ti Isaara General Hospital for medical treatment while the dead were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara. The Sector Commander cautioned Motorists on excessive speed and advised them to use common sense limits
