REPS SUMMON KYARI AND INDEPENDENT MARKETERS OVER FUEL HIKE

The House of Representatives has waded into the hike in the price of fuel. This decision followed the adoption of a motion under matters of urgent national importance at the House Plenary session presided by the Deputy Speaker Mr. Benjamin kalu. The House has summoned the Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Mr. Kele Kyari and independent marketers.

Sponsor of the Motion, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere decried the incessant increment of fuel prince because it would worsen the plight of Nigerians especially the increase of transport fares and food items. The Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu described the motion as timely since it was a reflective of the feelings of Nigerians. He said if they keep silent, it would look as if they are insensitive to the plight of Nigerians. He acknowledged that the latest increase in the price of fuel must have been preempted by market forces. Amobi Ogah (PDP ABIA) who claimed to be an expert in Oil and Gas industry also spoke in the same vein adding that there is need to take cognizance of market forces determining the price of fuel in the county. The House resolved to constitute an Ad-hoc committee with membership drawn from the 36 states of the federation to probe into the issue accordingly.
