AKPABIO SWEARS IN LALONG AS PLATEAU SOUTH SENATOR

Lalong who was the former minister for Labour and productivity has been sworn in as Senator representing Plateau South in the 10th senate. He was sworn in on Wednesday at the session presided by the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio. Lalong was former, speaker, former Governor of Plateau State as well as the Director-General of the All people’s Congress Campaigns in the 2023 presidential campaign.

He was quoted as saying after his inauguration that he had actually wanted to be a senator after his tenure as Governor. He said that it was his first choice and he opted to hold the position of a minister in the interim and on the invitation of Tinubu because he had a case he was pursuing in courts.

He promised to do his best to serve his electorate to the best of his abilities. The court of Appeal had on Novermber 7 upheld the judgement of the lower tribunal in Abuja, which declared Lalong as the winner of the Plateau-South Senatorial District election as against the People’s Democratic party’s candidate Mr. Napoleon Bali as the winner.

Lalong had challenged the initial results in court which INEC declared that Bali scored 148,844 while Lalong scored 91,674 saying that PDP had no proper structures on ground which a candidate could contest an election.
